There wasn’t an empty stomach in all of downtown Baton Rouge after the fourth annual Red Stick Roux Rally. More than 40 teams entered the gumbo cook-off and competed for the title of best overall bowl in Baton Rouge.
With a $10 wristband, attendees gained access to every booth on the grounds as well as made a donation to Youth Oasis, a children’s homeless shelter for the greater Baton Rouge community that aids abandoned, runaway and homeless youth.
The team whose pot of gumbo stood out above the rest was a group of coworkers from Cajun Industries Construction. Their homemade sausage set them apart from their competition.
Every year, Youth Oasis receives a donation from K.I.D.S; Karing is Doing Something, the nonprofit organization that hosts the Roux Rally. The mission of K.I.D.S is to provide a positive platform for under privileged children of Baton Rouge.
