The LSU track and field team sent competitors to the NCAA Indoor Championship meet where the women finished third and the men finished 15th.
Senior sprinter Kimberlyn Duncan made history, where she was the first sprinter, men or women, in collegiate history to win three straight NCAA indoor titles in the 200-meter race.
“To make history, I’m just so blessed to be able to do that,” Duncan said in a news release. “I’m excited to be here as a senior and go out with a bang.”
Junior Natoya Goule won the 800-meter run, and now ranks sixth on the NCAA’s all-time indoor performance list with a time of 2:02. Senior Charlene Lipsey finished third in the race.
Senior jumper Damar Forbes placed second in the long jump, and took the No. 2 spot in the LSU’s all-time indoor rank in the event.
LSU coach Dennis Shaver commends the work of his team at the championships.
“Our teams really battled all the way through the end of the meet,” said LSU head coach Dennis Shaver in a news release. “We certainly had ups and downs today and not everything went our way, but I’m proud of the way our teams finished this championship.”
