LSU suffered a 0-7 shut out loss to No. 3 Texas A&M Friday in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers started the day out badly after falling behind Texas A&M in the doubles competition. LSU freshman Caroline Hudson played with senior Keri Frankenberger for the first time this season. Frankenberger’s usual partner, senior Ebie Wilson, sat out the match due to illness.
LSU was ultimately swept in doubles, with junior Ariel Morton and sophomore Mary Jeremiah’s match being cut short as Texas A&M had won on courts two and three.
LSU’s tough day continued during the singles competition, as the Aggies overwhelmed the Tigers on all six courts.
“(Texas A&M) plays the way that we’ve been trying to teach our team to play,” said coach Julia Sell. “They’re the most mentally-disciplined team we’ve played thus far.
The Tigers lost in straight sets on all six courts.
“Being able to play at a high level isn’t about being able to play for one or two points, it’s being able to maintain it for three or four hours straight,” Sell said. “That’s what separates where we are from where top 10 teams are.”
LSU continues Southeastern Conference play on Sunday, taking on Missouri at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
