The LSU women’s tennis team suffered a tough loss 4-2 loss to Ole Miss Friday afternoon in Oxford.
The Lady Tigers(8-9, 1-6 Southeastern Conference) started out in a hole early after the duo of seniors Ebie Wilson and Keri Frankenberger fell 3-8 and junior Ariel Morton and sophomore Mary Jeremiah lost 5-8, securing the doubles point for Ole Miss(5-8, 3-4 SEC).
With inclement weather forcing play onto the indoor courts, only half of the singles matches were able to begin play after the completion of doubles.
LSU seized the lead in singles play as freshman Ella Taylor dispatched Mai El Kamash 6-3, 6-1 and senior Kaitlin Burns beat Caroline Rohde-Moe 6-3, 6-2. That was all the points the Lady Tigers would get as Ole Miss rode several strong performances on the lower courts.
Jeremiah took an early 3-0 lead in the first set but was unable to maintain the momentum and fell 6-7, 4-6, leveling the score at 2-2.
The Rebels continued to roll as Morton fell 3-6, 4-6 to Erin Stephens. After roughly a two hour wait to get on court, Frankenberger started slowly in her match against Marija Milutinovic and was not able to recover as Milutinovic secured a 6-0, 6-2 victory to wrap up the scoring.
LSU will finish up the weekend road trip with a match at Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
