University Court upheld the Student Government Election Board’s decision to disqualify Unite LSU from the recent SG elections Saturday, based on alleged overspending by the campaign.
However, Unite LSU advisor Joe Gipson said Kristina Lagasse, who prepared Unite LSU’s financial documents, has filed a pending complaint with UCourt against the Commissioner of Elections Aimeé SImon and the Election Board.
The pending complaint states: “The UNITE LSU ticket was wrongfully disqualified because Commissioner of Elections, Aimee Simon,
and the Election Board incorrectly executed their power of revaluing expenses.”
The complaint requests that all Unite LSU candidates be reinstated.
Unite LSU presidential candidate John Woodard said he and his vice presidential candidate Taylor Parks are now prepared to take further action to overturn the UCourt’s decision.
Woodard said he is prepared to take this to the University’s chancellor’s office as well as to push for “legitimate legal action.”
Woodard said he and Parks will take further action if necessary to ensure that all of the Unite LSU candidates are “represented fairly and given an honest shot to hold positions they were deservedly elected to do.”
The complaint against the commissioner of elections and the Election Board will be heard Sunday afternoon, according to Joe Gipson.
