The Greek community gathered Sunday for the 92nd annual Songfest dance competition and Order of Omega Awards to celebrate their philanthropic efforts and the close of the school year.
Members of the Panhellenic council collaborated with the Interfraternity Council for dance routines with themes ranging from sailors to astronauts and aliens.
“This is a fun event for the Greek community,” said Greek Board of Directors President and Tri-Delta member Sarah Lichterman.
The Greek community has raised more than $450,000 and volunteered more than 200 hours of service this year to a number of charities including Service for Sight, Boys and Girls Club of Baton Rouge and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
The biggest accomplishment for the Greek community’s philanthropic efforts came during Greek Week, when the Greek Community reached the $1 million mark of money raised for Habitat for Humanity.
All of the proceeds from Songfest will be donated to philanthropic efforts, according to Lichterman.
“One value of Greek organizations is service,” said Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Greek Life Angela Guillory. “This event spotlights that and wraps up the end of the year”
Songfest was followed by the Order of Omega Awards, which recognizes individual members and individual organizations for their philanthropic efforts throughout the year, as well as recognizes new initiates to the Order of Omega, a Greek honor society.
