The LSU women’s golf team finished an up and down season with a disappointing seventh place finish at the Southeastern Conference Championships on April 21.
LSU began its spring season an hour south of home at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans. The Lady Tigers finished sixth out of 18 schools after shooting 16-over 592 as a team over the course of a rain-shortened two-round tournament.
Sophomore Madelene Sagstrom and freshman Elise Bradley finished in a tie for 13th place, each finishing the week at 2-over 146.
The Lady Tigers notched their best finish of the season in March with a tie for second place at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in South Carolina. They posted rounds of 11-over 295, 2-over and 15-over to finish four strokes behind Alabama.
“The team is playing good,” LSU coach Karen Bahnsen said after the tournament. “We had a great last couple outings and that’s given them confidence when they go out there and compete.”
In their only home tournament of the season, the LSU Tiger Golf Classic, the Lady Tigers again had a close finish. They struggled in the final round, shooting 24-over 312 to finish in third place behind Arkansas and Tulane.
“The more times they are there, it is going to make them stronger,” Bahnsen said in a news release. “They are disappointed they didn’t do what they wanted to do, but at the same token, I’m proud of them.”
Sagstrom finished in second place at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and tied for second at the Tiger Golf Classic.
LSU concluded its regular season with a tie for sixth at Ole Miss’ Rebel Intercollegiate. Junior Lindsay Gahm and freshman Nadine Dreher tied for 16th to pace the Lady Tigers.
Two weeks later, LSU began its postseason at the SEC Championships. The Lady Tigers finished seventh in the tournament after shooting 59-over 923 for the week.
“Some weeks aren’t your week,” Bahnsen said. “We are going to get there. They’ve done some really good things this semester, and we aren’t done yet.”
Still on the schedule for the Lady Tigers is the NCAA West Regional on May 9 and the NCAA Championships on May 21.
