Madison Prep power forward and five-star LSU signee Jarrell Martin was named one of the 24 players in the 36th annual McDonald’s All-American Game on Thursday, becoming the first Baton Rouge-area player selected since former Denham Springs and LSU standout Tasmin Mitchell in 2005.
Martin, rated the No. 4 power forward in the nation by ESPN for 2013, signed with the Tigers in early December over Alabama, Oklahoma State, St. John’s and Texas A&M.
The 6-foot-9 forward is the anchor of LSU coach Johnny Jones’ nationally-ranked 2013 class, which features forward Jordan Mickey and point guard Tim Quarterman, both of whom are also ranked in the ESPN 100.
Martin joins the likes of current Tiger forward Johnny O’Bryant III and NBA stars Glen Davis and Brandon Bass as LSU players who earned McDonald’s honors out of high school.
The game is slated for April 3 at the United Center in Chicago.
