LSU junior wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was named a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist Monday, given annually to the nation’s outstanding receiver.
Beckham is one of 10 semifinalists to be announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation after securing the nation’s No. 2 spot for all-purpose yards with 209 yards per game.
Beckham is also 30 yards away from former LSU standout Domanick Davis’ single season all-purpose yards record of 2,120 set in 2002.
“You’re looking at a guy that this team relies on in a number of spots and has spectacular hands and speed and is impossible to cover one-on-one,” said LSU coach Les Miles. “I think that national award — he’s worthy.
The New Orleans native leads the Tigers with 1,051 receiving yards this season, about 700 yards shy of the program record set by Josh Reed in 2001.
Saturday’s matchup against Texas A&M features another wide receiver on the semifinalist list as Aggie sophomore wide receiver Mike Evans comes into Death Valley.
