I apologize for the short entry this week, but my school schedule has been hectic.
Let’s get straight to the news.
1. SteamBox controller is awesome
Valve kept right on rolling with news about its upcoming operating system and video game console.
The controller attempts to rid console gaming of arguably its biggest flaw — the lack of precision control.
While joysticks are nice, a trackpad or mouse is much more responsive to your fingers.
Instead of twin joysticks like a traditional controller, there are two concave trackpads nestled where the thumbs usually rest.
It’s an interesting design and has the potential to change gaming as we know it — if it catches on.
2. iPhone teardowns
As with any new gadget release, someone is going to rip it apart to try and find how much it actually costs.
Swiss company UBS AG published a report Monday saying the iPhone 5S contains $213 worth of materials, while the 5C is $156.
The plastic variant only saves Apple $46.
This means the margins on Apple’s 5S and 5C are around 45 percent and 48 percent, respectively.
But those numbers will rise as the devices become cheaper to make over time.
