The 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced early Thursday morning, kicking off the long-awaited television award show season.
Actors Aaron Paul and Neil Patrick Harris announced the nominations live from the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in Los Angeles.
Both actors received nominations; Paul for his role as Jesse Pinkman on “Breaking Bad” and Harris for hosting the Tony Awards.
Among the shows leading the nominations are “American Horror Story” with 17 nominations, “Game of Thrones” with 16 nominations followed by “Behind the Candelabra” and “Saturday Night Live” with 15 nominations.
Netflix is also proving that it’s a force to be reckoned with as two of its shows receive nominations for the first time in the streaming service’s history. “House of Cards” garnered 9 nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama (Kevin Spacey) and Lead Actress in a Drama (Robin Wright).
“Arrested Development” added three noms to Netflix’s score including Jason Bateman for Lead Actor in a Comedy.
In another Emmys first, Kerry Washington has landed her first ever Emmy nomination for her role as Olivia Pope in ABC’s “Scandal.” If she wins, she will be the first African-American woman in the 65-year history of the Primetime Emmys to take the Lead Actress in a Drama category.
Neil Patrick Harris will host the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards when the show airs on September 22nd on CBS at 8 p.m. /7c.
