“Glee” Star Dies from Drug Overdose
31-year-old Cory Monteith of “Glee” fame died tragically in a Vancouver hotel room on Saturday.
The actor was reportedly found alone in the hotel room and died of a “mixed drug toxicity” of heroin and alcohol according to the British Columbia coroner’s office.
Monteith had been quite open about having struggled with drugs since he was a teenager, once saying in an interview that he was “lucky to be alive.”
He first entered a treatment facility to treat his addictions when he was 19-years-old and again this past April.
Although he recently completed the 30-day treatment program and seemed to look healthy, he was found dead only three months later.
Reps for “Glee” co-star and real-life girlfriend Lea Michele released a statement earlier this week on her behalf.
“Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends, and fans,” read the statement. “Since Cory’s passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them.”
After a private viewing of the body with members of Monteith’s family and Lea Michele in attendance, the body was reportedly cremated.
Michele is reportedly organizing the funeral.
SyFy Greenlights “Sharknado” Sequel
If all you have ever wanted is a second helping of sharks and tornados taking a city by storm, today is your lucky day.
The bizarre film, starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, premiered last Thursday and became an instant (and surprising) hit. A total of 1.4 million viewers tuned in and, at its peak, the film registered 5,000 tweets per minute.
After the success of “Sharknado,” the network has announced this week that it will be releasing a sequel.
For now, the sequel is simply being called “Sharknado 2,” but SyFy is holding a Twitter contest to find a fitting subtitle. The network is asking for the most creative titles to be tweeted to @SyFyMovies with the #Sharknado hashtag.
The sequel is set to debut in 2014, however official casting news has not been announced yet.
