Huey’s Bar welcomed a large crowd to its grand opening on Friday night.
Huey’s is the latest addition to the growing nightlife scene in the downtown Baton Rouge area.
Tucked away on Third St., Huey’s is perfect for the 21 and older crowd who are looking for a more intimate setting to have a few drinks.
Unlike other bars on Third St., Huey’s does not host live musicians or serve food. Instead, guests are free to mingle amongst each other while enjoying a drink and music selections from a classic juke box.
The name “Huey’s” is in remembrance of Louisiana’s 40th governor, Huey P. Long.
General Manager Andrew Bayard said that the unique setting of the bar is in tribute to Long’s entertaining and social spirit.
“Huey P. Long as governor enjoyed drinking and being social and we want people to come in, be social, and drink,” Bayard said. “He loved to entertain and that’s what all of us do.”
Huey’s also featured numerous pictures of Huey P. Long throughout the bar as well as other images from his era.
The bar was packed during the grand opening, which is a good sign of things to come for the future of the establishment.
