Since I’m new the The Daily Reveille blogging scene, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite websites and blogs with y’all. I think online ‘favorites’ say a lot about a person. Mine are mostly fashion and food related, so take from that what you will.
I’ll do this post in two parts; food today and fashion on Wednesday. So, here’s a guide to the best food blogs, online magazines, and cooking retailers out there.
1. Sweetsonian
Graphic designer and Washington D.C. resident, Sarah Gerrity, has put together a truly perfect food blog. Her recipes are always delicious, her writing is beyond charming and her travel photos are enough to give even the biggest homebody wanderlust.
Her Grown-Up Ramen recipe is a total college-food game changer.
2. Dark Rye
Dark Rye is an online magazine brought to us by Whole Foods. They publish recipes, of course, but also food, design, environmental news from all over the world.
3. Nigella.com
If you’re as into food as I am (or even if you’re not), then you’ve definitely heard of Nigella Lawson. Food writer and TV personality, Lawson has published some of the best selling cookbooks in the last 20 years. Her website is a great resource tips, tricks, and news on my favorite domestic goddess, Nigella herself.
4. Spoon Fork Bacon
Meet your newest food blog obsession. Aside from having the cutest name ever, Spoon Fork Bacon finds a way to use some of the weirdest ingredients in completely accessible ways.
Like this Black Garlic Braised Short Rib Poutine. How AMAZING does that sound?
5. Foodspotting
OK. Foodspotting is seriously cool. People all over the world photograph and map the most delicious meals in the city. If you’re in a new place and looking for a good meal, or in Baton Rouge and need to try something new, Foodspotting is your best bet.
6. FOOD52
FOOD52 publishes content from chefs and other food professionals in a non-pretentious way that is totally refreshing. They have a long list of fantastic regular columnists and their new online shop, ‘provisions,’ is full of great gifts for the chef in your life.

7. Pairs Well With Food
Aida Mollenkamp has a fabulously cosmopolitan life. She brings us simple, beautiful recipes and cocktails inspired by travels, and her cookbook, Keys To The Kitchen, is a staple in my house.
Now, Campari and watermelon are two of my favorite ingredients on the plant, so I can’t imagine a better cocktail than this:
8. Sous Chef
Sous Chef is like Williams-Sonoma for the obscure: interesting tableware, professional-grade cookware and hard-to-find ingredients from edible flowers to seaweed and squid ink.
9. Smitten Kitchen
If you need something fabulous to bring to a dinner party in a pinch, Smitten Kitchen will spoil you with choices. Everything I’ve ever tried from SK has been a huge hit. And they have the most extensive list of popsicle recipes I’ve ever seen.
These in particular are next on my list to try:
10. Chasing Delicious
Chasing Delicious combines food and science to make some incredibly useful cooking graphics. That and the encyclopedia and conversions tables make this site my first stop for all my culinary questions.
