Haaaaaave you met Ted?
If not, please reevaluate your life choices.
The ninth and final season of “How I Met Your Mother” premiered last night on CBS leading us closer to the end of an era.
When the sitcom premiered in 2005, “Friends” had ended the year before and it didn’t seem like any other sitcoms could fill the giant void in the genre.
While “How I Met Your Mother” is similar to “Friends” in that it follows the hijinks of a group of friends in NYC, it has a completely different premise and has managed to make its own mark on TV history.
“How I Met Your Mother” is centered around Ted Mosby: Architect as his future self tells the story of how he met the mother of his two kids. Through his many (many) relationships and almost-marriages, we’ve watched as Ted, a hopeless romantic, attempts to navigate his love life.
Robin Scherbatsky, Barney Stinson, Lily Aldrin, and Marshall Eriksen, Ted’s best friends, are always there to help their friend while also entertaining us with their own hilarious storylines.
For almost a decade “How I Met Your Mother” has helped keep the television sitcom genre alive. As we prepare to say goodbye to the show, let’s take a look back at the top 10 most legendary moments.
1) Blue French Horn
You can’t talk about HIMYM without mentioning the blue French horn. In the pilot episode Ted misses the chance to kiss Robin after their first date. Later that night, he returns to her apartment with the horn that he stole for her from the restaurant. Being the hopeless romantic that he is, he blurted out that he loved her and missed a second chance at kissing her.
2) Robin Sparkles – Let’s Go to the Mall
Robin shocks everyone when she reveals that she was once a teen pop star in Canada.
(Also, she was lying about having just one minor hit. Check out Sandcastles in the Sand, too.)
3) Marshall Meets Lily At The Airport
Adorable airport scenes will never get old!
4) Barney’s Playbook
Basically the holy grail of picking up chicks for any bro who’s willing to put in the time and effort.
5) Slap bet
After Marshall won the ultimate slap bet in season 2, he was awarded the honor of being able to slap Barney 5 times. The catch was that he could dole out the 5 slaps any time he wanted from then to eternity. As of this season, there’s one slap left. When will the wrath of the final slap come down? Nobody knows…
6) Robin Really Hates Patrice
For some unknown reason Robin hates her perky co-worker, Patrice, and her hatred has turned into the funniest thing ever.
7) Barney’s High Fives
If anyone is credited for keeping the act of high-fiving alive, it should be Barney Stinson.
8) Musical Numbers
A cast that sings their own theme song together, stays together!
9) Ted’s Kids Are Pissed
While we’re sad the show is ending, everyone is ready to finally find out how Ted met the mother of his kids, especially Ted’s kids.
10) How We Met Their Mother
While we technically didn’t meet the mother during last season’s finale, we finally got to see what she looks like. Interestingly enough, she looks like a mix of Robin and Lily.
If you’re not caught up you have plenty of enough time to binge-watch the show on Netflix before the final episode, which is set to air in Spring 2014.
“How I Met Your Mother” airs on Mondays at 8pm/7c on CBS.
