New York fashion week is wrapping up, and with London, Paris and Milan ahead, let’s take a moment to reflect on some of the trends that are already emerging.
1. The ’90s
The 90s are officially back. And, unfortunately, I think they’re going to be around for a while. Get ready to see lots of grunge, bias-cut dresses, and overalls in the next few years.
The looks: DKNY, Jason Wu, Rag and Bone, Theyskens’ Theory
This is my favorite trend this season! People were trying to make fancy sweatpants happen for a while, but I think this is a much better look. I’ve seen fancy sweatshirts popping up at stores like Urban Outfitters and the like, so it’s one of the more attainable trends this season as well.
The looks: Jason Wu, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Monique Lhuillier, Prabal Gurung
3. Black and White
Black and white has been big for a while now. This sleek minimalism is so refreshing in the summer months. A little white dress with sharp, black accessories just screams cool.
The looks: Carolina Herrera, Diane Von Furstenberg, Altuzarra, Alexander Wang
4. Pastels
At first I was thinking, pastels, for spring? Groundbreaking. But then I remembered all those neons from last year, and pastels are such a nice departure! Light and airy next spring. Put those neon accessories away.
The look: Delpozo, Prabal Gurung, Rag and Bone, Zac Posen
5. Baggy Clothes
Silhouettes are getting farther and farther away from the body lately. This trend can start to look silly, but I think there’s something to be said for looser clothing, particularly in the summer. And I think, as long as you stick with loose and stay away from over-sized, you’ll capture the effortless cool of this trend.
The looks: Delpozo, DKNY, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Victoria Beckham
6. Midriffs
Keep doing those crunches, crop tops are here to stay!
The looks: Altuzarra, Christian Siriano, Peter Som, Vivienne Tam
