Student Government is working with Middleton Library to create online registration for student rooms, SG Vice President Taylor Parks announced at the SG Senate meeting Wednesday evening.
The new system, if implemented, would eliminate the hassle of coordinating with the library — either in person or through email — and would be similar to scheduling a test with the Computer-Based Testing Center. Students could simply go online and select a time and date, Parks said.
“This system will eliminate the middle man,” Parks said.
SG Senate members also brought forth the semester’s first bill, which discusses amendments to SG’s programming, support and initiatives fund.
The bill, written by Sen. Max Miranne of the College of Agriculture, would establish the organizations’ initiatives fund — which deals specifically with students’ needs — within the programming, support, and initiatives fund.
The amendment would repurpose $250,000 in student assessed fees, giving student organizations easier access to money, Speaker pro tempore Trey Schwartzenburg said.
This proposed amendment would allow student organizations to ask SG to help fund events and programs, provide money to help student organizations acquire equipment or software they need. It would also help provide funding for student organizations’ community service projects.
“We want this amendment to be sustainable and have a noticeable benefit to the LSU community,” Miranne said.
The bill was quickly tabled and will undergo further review.
