Before the academic year began, LSU President F. King Alexander promised he would attend every LSU football game this season, so it was no surprise that he traveled to Dallas for Saturday’s Cowboys Classic game against TCU.
Alexander took advantage of his time in Dallas to meet with donors, alumni and representatives of nearby high schools.
University Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard said beside taking in the game at AT&T Stadium, Alexander split his time in Dallas between recruiting and fundraising.
Linda Young, scholarship and recruiting chair for the Dallas chapter of the LSU Alumni Association, said she met with Alexander at Gameday on the Geaux, a recruitment event held at the Arlington Convention Center on Saturday.
Ballard said Alexander met with about 700 high school seniors and their parents from all over Texas at the event, along with high school principals and guidance counselors from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Young said she met with Alexander on three occasions during his visit, and that at each, he spoke optimistically about the state of affairs at LSU.
“We were very happy with how accessible, how friendly, how down-to-earth he was,” Young said. “He engaged the kids, he was always telling about the good things going on campus.”
Alexander said before leaving on the trip that he would also be meeting with large scale donors in Dallas, but declined to say exactly who the donors were.
After arriving in Dallas on Wednesday, Alexander left soon after the game, returning to Baton Rouge around 4 a.m. Sunday.
