The Louisiana Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the University’s request for a stay and declined to review the University’s appeal of a lower court ruling that the Board of Supervisors turn over records related to the school’s presidential search process.
Without the stay, the University will now face a $500-a-day fine for refusing to turn over the names of finalist candidates for the recently merged System president position.
District Judge Janice Clark found the University in contempt of court Aug. 14, demanding the University pay the $500-a-day fine for every day it refused to turn over records since her initial ruling against the University on April 30.
The University was granted a stay from May 23 to June 6, meaning it would not have to turn over the records while the University waited to appeal its case to the state Supreme Court.
