The LSU men’s and women’s track and field teams will take on their largest field of competition yet this season on Friday and Saturday at the two-day Razorback Invitational meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
This weekend’s competition will be the first of four meets LSU will attend in Fayetteville this season, including the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships and the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In addition to host No. 5 Arkansas, the No. 6 Lady Tigers will compete against 10 other schools including ranked opponents No. 7 Florida, No. 12 Arizona, No. 13 Texas, No. 16 Georgia, No. 17 Baylor and No. 23 Nebraska.
One week removed from a victory by fewer than four points against No. 4 Texas A&M and Arkansas at the Texas A&M Triangular meet, the Lady Tigers will look to beat Arkansas again, this time on the Razorbacks’ home track.
Senior sprinter Kimberlyn Duncan led the Lady Tigers last week, winning first place in the 60-meter sprint for the second time this season and taking first in her season debut of the 200-meter sprint.
Duncan’s performance last week earned her the SEC Runner of the Week award for the eighth time in her career. She will race for her 20th consecutive victory in the 200-meter this weekend — a streak that extends back to her sophomore indoor season.
The LSU men will face five ranked opponents including No. 1 Arkansas, No. 3 Florida, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Arizona and No. 21 Florida State as well as unranked opponents Baylor, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
The Tigers finished third behind Texas A&M and Arkansas in last week’s meet, finishing more than 40 points behind the Aggies who defended their home track, putting up 128.5 points to win the meet.
