Former Tiger dual-athlete Chad Jones may find himself back on the Louisiana sports scene again in the near future, as WWL-TV reported Tuesday that he will work out with the Saints on Wednesday.
Jones, a New Orleans native and former No. 1 safety recruit in the nation, played both football and baseball at LSU, winning a National Championship in both sports. In his only season with the baseball program, Jones pitched out of the bullpen and was a part-time outfielder.
Jones played in 37 games over three seasons as a safety for the Tigers before foregoing his senior season to take a shot at the NFL. The New York Giants selected him in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, but his life soon took a turn in the opposite direction.
Jones incurred multiple fractures to his left leg in a June 2010 car accident, shattering his tibia and fibia and leaving him unable to walk. Personal doctors finally cleared Jones to practice in full pads in December 2012 after two years of recovery and rehabilitation.
The Giants cut Jones from the squad in May 2012 after he failed a physical.
