Former University faculty member Margaret Herster filed suit against the School of Art Tuesday over the illegal collection of student fees, The Times Picayune reported Friday.
The suit also accused school director Rod Parker of denying Herster equal pay and advancements because of her gender, the Times reported.
The Times also reported that a letter written by Herster to University officials in February 2012 said Parker and other members of the School of Arts knew about the illegal collection and misappropriation of about $28,000 in fees annually — none of which was authorized by the LSU Board of Supervisors.
An audit undertaken by the University confirmed Herster’s claims of unauthorized student fees, according to the article, and the misused funds totaled up to about $130,000, which was used to purchase iPads and Mac computers for faculty. These misused funds include money requested of the University by the School of Arts.
The School of Arts has agreed to evaluate the findings of the audit by March 31.
