Mixing prints might be one of the toughest trends to pull off. Sometimes it looks incredible, other times it looks sloppy. I have a few tips on how to tackle this tricky trend.
-Scale is everything. Don’t pick two random bold prints. You could wear, say, a more sublte print, like small polka dots, with a bolder print. Put the bolder print where you want the focus to be. If you like your legs, pick boldly patterned shorts or skirts.
-Color is another great way to combine prints. If both of the prints have at least one color in common, this makes them easier to combine. Having colors in common also makes it more likely that the patterns will actually look good togther. However, you don’t want the prints to look too similar.
-Don’t be afraid to experiment with color. Find colors that compliment each other. Navy and yellow, purple and gold, and mint green and lavender are a few of my favorite color combinations.
-Ground the look with neutral shoes and subtle accessories. Let the mixing prints be the focus of the outfit.
-If you’re nervous about combining patterned prints and tops, try a patterned dress (or even a dress with multiple patterns) instead. That way you won’t have to worry about whether the patterns mesh well or not.
-Patterned accessories, like belts, scarves, bangles, and shoes are another way to integrate the trend into everyday looks. Adding a printed accessory to a casual outfit is another way to slowly step into the trend.
