The Lady Tiger track and field team won three events and finished runner-up title at the Arkansas Razorback Invitational while the LSU men placed sixth.
The Lady Tigers scored 100 points, which fell just short of Florida’s 101, but scored wins in the 800-meter run and the 60-meter dash.
LSU senior sprinters Kimberlyn Duncan and Takeia Pinckney went first and second in the 60-meter dash with Duncan leading at 7.22 and Pinckneyfollowing at 7.40 seconds. Junior Natoya Guole and senior Charlene Lipsey finished first and second in the 800-meter run for the top two NCAA times in 2013.
“We both knew we were going to run fast,” Goule said. “We went out and did exactly what we wanted to do.”
Lady Tigers junior Denise Hinton won the weight throw with a throw of 20.57 meters, junior Jasmin Stowers took second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.25 seconds and junior Keri Emanuel finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 13.06 meters.
LSU head coach Dennis Shaver said his athletes performed well in their ability to maintain consistency in their performances each weekend. He said the team focuses on improving for each meet.
“We had a number of athletes really step up their game and put themselves in a great position to qualify for the NCAA Championships,” Shaver said in a news release.
The LSU women’s 4×400 team of senior Siedda Herbert, sophomore Montene’ Roye-Speight, Lipsey, and Goule added a fourth place finish to the total meet score. Goule said her participation in the relay helps with her speed for the 800 meter run.
“I’m also happy to help our team in any way that I can,” Goule said of the 4×400 race. “If that means they need me to run a leg for the relay, I’ll do it. It’s just another way I can improve myself for the 800.”
For the Tigers, sophomore Andreas Duplantis and senior Thomas Reinecke went second and third in the pole vault. The LSU 4×400 team of freshman Cyril Grayson, sophomore Quincy Downing, Caleb Williams and freshman Darrell Bush placed fourth, while sophomore Aaron Ernest placed third in the 60-meter dash. Senior Damar Forbes was disqualified in five out of six jumps to finish ninth in the triple jump.
Shaver said he was proud of the team’s progress and hopes to continue it throughout the season.
“I’m proud with how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time,” Shaver said. “We’ll look to take another big step as a team next weekend.”
LSU travels to the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York on Feb. 1.
