Ever been sitting on your couch one night, watching some TV, and all of a sudden, a commercial for that giant new casino down Nicholson Street comes on blasting a song that sounds strangely similar to The Black Keys’ “Howlin’ for You”?
The Black Keys heard it, too, and the aren’t happy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The blues rock duo from Akron, Ohio, claim the owners of L’Auberge Casino and Hotel in Baton Rouge, Manhattan Production Music and Pinnacle Entertainment, ripped off the band’s song in a TV ad.
The accused defended themselves on the commercial’s now-removed YouTube page, saying they had a license to reproduce a version of the song.
But Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are crying copyright infringement. And they aren’t scared, taking on Pizza Hut and Home Depot for similar offenses.
Let’s just hope the Keys don’t hold it against Baton Rouge or Louisiana.
