Delightful, divine and delicious — The Kolache Kitchen opened Jan. 12 and seems to be getting busier every day.
Kolaches are going to be the new breakfast staple for University students. Gone are the days where we go to Louie’s and wait 45 minutes to get a subpar meal with inflated prices.
The Kolache Kitchen offers a blend of kolaches, homemade muffins, empanadas, rancheros and breakfast burritos made from scratch daily. It also offers a variety of vegetarian options, and the prices cater to college students’ budgets.
For those Louisiana residents who are unfamiliar with a kolache, the baked pastry is filled with anything ranging from meat, eggs, fruit, cheese or any combination of the four.
Over the course of a week, I managed to make the short trip to Kolache Kitchen three times and tried a variety of items.
The first day I went, I bought a blueberry muffin and a sausage and cheese kolache. The blueberry muffin had what I believe were cinnamon sugar crumbles on top, and the kolache was the perfect size. The two of these combined kept me full until lunchtime.
On my second trip, I got a breakfast burrito, but I would recommend getting at least two because they were somewhat small.
On my third trip, I had cinnamon roll and a plain sausage kolache. The regular size cinnamon rolls looked too intimidating, so I went for the miniature version, and it was the perfect size.
Kolache Kitchen is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
