This summer, Baton Rouge will be one of the host cities for PBS’s hit show “Antiques Roadshow.”
The show will be filmed at the Baton Rouge River Center on July 27 for episodes for its 18th season. This is the show’s first return to Louisiana since episodes were shot in New Orleans in 2002.
“We’re really excited to visit Baton Rouge,” said Mariel MacNaughton, account executive for “Antiques Roadshow”. “Wherever we go, people seem to come out of the woodwork, so it’ll be interesting to see what we find.”
Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden called this is an exciting opportunity.
“This is a great opportunity for Baton Rouge to shine on national television,” Holden said in a news release. “‘Antiques Roadshow’ will give out local residents a chance to show off their historical treasures and family heirlooms and should make for some exciting viewing.”
The show’s visit to the area is something President and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge Paul Arrigo is looking forward to.
“It’s really a tremendous opportunity for Baton Rouge to showcase what we have to the viewers,” Arrigo said. “So many antiques enthusiasts coming to Baton Rouge to participate is a wonderful opportunity for the area. It’s something we’ve been working on for 15 years to bring here.”
But perhaps the question many people are wondering is why come to Baton Rouge over New Orleans.
“We like to rotate locations and go to different parts of the country,” MacNaughton said.
The episodes shot in Baton Rouge will be part of season 18 for the show, which airs in January 2014.
Anyone interested in tickets can fill out an application on the show’s website and 3,000 winners will be selected to win a pair of tickets.
