OMAHA, Neb. – For two weeks every summer, the largest city in Nebraska goes on a baseball binge unlike any place in the country.
The center of all the hype in Omaha, Neb., TD Ameritrade Stadium, stands tall amongst the litters of people making their ways to and from the surrounding tailgate scene.
Several companies, including AT&T and Capital One, kicked off the festivities on Day One of live baseball with their own Fan Fests, as fans of all teams could enjoy countless booths selling anything from turkey legs to shrimp po-boys.
One local bar, The Old Mattress Factory, AKA “The Matt,” hosted a tailgate part of its own, and any sponsors from Coors Light to Budweiser had tents set up for fans to enjoy.
The week of baseball attracts players of all ages, and they are able to test their skills on a number of diamond-related activities, including pitching machines, batting cages, and even a wiffle ball field.
Entering the stadium is another story.
As Mississippi State and Oregon State took the field in TD Ameritrade, a collection of Bulldog and Beaver fans could be found on either side of home plate. The outfield bleachers featured a rainbow of shirts, as fans of every squad crowded the stadium to enjoy a Saturday of America’s pasttime.
The atmosphere is electric, and as Day One continues on, Omaha appears to be living up to the hype.
