Student booked for DWI after hitting street sweeper
University student Ivan Bruno Lafayette, 21, of 12749 Parneel Avenue in Baton Rouge, was booked Wednesday for DWI after hitting a street sweeper with his SUV.
LSUPD Spokesman Capt. Cory Lalonde said officers responded to the traffic incident at 4:09 a.m. at the intersection of Highland Road and South Campus Drive. Once officers were on the scene, they saw Lafayette’s vehicle had sustained significant damage.
Lafayette denied medical treatment on the scene but exhibited signs of intoxication. The officers then put the suspect through several field intoxication exams, and the suspect was taken to LSUPD headquarters where he agreed to submit to the chemical intoxication test, which showed he had a .142 BAC.
Suspects arrested in burglary case involving LSU Studio Arts Building
Joel S. Vedros, 27, and Shannon K. Tyndall, 22, were arrested May 29 and 30, respectively, after admitting to burglarizing a private office in the Studio Arts building.
Several items were stolen from the office, including a digital camera, a camera lens, cash and other miscellaneous items totaling more than $1,000, Lalonde said.
Vedros was identified after the victim allegedly provided incriminating evidence to investigators. Upon being contacted by investigators, Vedros admitted to entering the unsecured office and taking the items. Tyndall was then located May 30, and upon making contact with investigators, she turned herself in.
Most of the items from the office were recovered and returned to the victim.
Former University employee charged with Peeping Tom
Brandon D. Robertson, of 6427 Kincaid Avenue in Baton Rouge, was charged as a “Peeping Tom” May 30 after being identified in a photographic lineup by the victim. Robertson was employed by the University’s Facility Services until May 10, according to Lalonde.
On May 9, LSUPD received a complaint from a female after she observed someone looking under her shower curtain as she was showering.
Through video evidence, investigators were able to identify only one suspect who was present during the time period
Suspect arrested for litany of drug-related offenses
Robert Messina, 28, was arrested for three counts of drug-related crimes after a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Nicholson Drive and S. Stadium Drive due to his brake lights being out.
After stopping Messina, the officer detected a heavy scent of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The suspect granted the officer permission to search the car, at which time the officer discovered a plastic bag containing 8.12 ounces of marijuana.

The officer also discovered the drug roxicodone — a rapid response form of oxicodone — melted in a spoon with a syringe in the vehicle.
Underage drinking prominent at Bayou Country Superfest
During the weekend of the popular country music festival, LSUPD booked a total of 28 people with MIPs. Nine people were booked on Saturday, while 19 people were booked on Sunday.
Lalonde said those numbers come strictly from the arrests made by LSUPD officers and doesn’t include others from other agencies that were patrolling the area.
