Gov. Bobby Jindal emphasized the importance of training high school and college students to meet the demands of what he said was a growing state economy Monday in his speech during the opening day of the legislative session.
Jindal mentioned the stories of eight current Louisiana residents, who had either returned back to Louisiana after leaving or had come here for a job. All, Jindal said, were able to find a job because of the growing state economy.
“Over the past six years, we have made great progress and more people are now able to find a job and raise a family here, but our work is not done yet. Because of the work we have completed to foster a strong business climate, there are now thousands of jobs in the pipeline for Louisiana,” Jindal said.
“We have tens of thousands of jobs in the pipeline that must be filled, and our next challenge is to ensure we have the skilled workforce to fill these jobs of the future.”
Jindal mentioned with this year’s proposed budget, his administration is focused on training students, including increased funding to higher education institutions as well as the WISE plan, which will attempt to align state funding with programs that meet workforce demands.
