Students gathered at the Manship Journalism building Monday night to watch Experience LSU candidates Christian Coleman and Ashleigh Pichon and The Next Step Candidates Clay Tufts and Taylor Lambert explain their initiatives at the student government presidential debate.
Among the favored topics was the issue of safety around campus.
Sophmore Elizabeth Borda says the Next Step’s initiative to improve lighting could really benefit LSU.
“I would say the Next Step because I know he was talking about lighting the walk I believe and just really making sure you always have the lights there all around campus and just keeping everything in check and always having that secure walk from point A to point B around campus”
The debate was moderated by senior Travis Cobb. During the debate, panelists had the opportunities to ask candidates questions about their plans to improve other campus organizations.
Sophmore David Scotton says student government needs to hear matters from other sources. “They don’t have knowledge coming from outside student government, “Scotton said. “Both of them are from student government and I think a serious problem that is not addressed is and hasn’t been addressed in any debate in the previous years is cliqueness inside student government. I think there’s some problems in the internal part of student government that needs to be fixed before we can fix external matters. The candidates seemed to agree on most issues.”
