LSU junior golfer Stewart Jolly finished up a career-low 54-hole score Tuesday to take runner-up to Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans in the Valspar Invitational at the Floridian Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
Making a bid for his second individual title this season, Jolly shot 10-under-par 203 to settle for a respectable second place finish and his third top-five finish of the season.
No. 27 LSU finished fourth in the team competition. No. 4 Georgia Tech shot 15-under-par 837 to finish in first, eight strokes ahead of No. 3 Oklahoma State. No. 21 Texas A&M finished third, shooting just one stroke better than LSU at 6-under-par 846 .
The Tigers used identical first and second round scores to withstand a final round in which the team collectively shot 7-over-par.
LSU junior All-American Curtis Thompson shot even-par 213, and his performance was good enough to tie for 24th on the tournament’s leader board.
After joining Jolly and Stewart as the only Tigers to break par in the opening round, senior Smylie Kaufman could not maintain his level of play and finished tied for 30th, shooting 3-over-par for a final score of 215.
Junior Ben Taylor suffered a disappointing tournament, sandwiching two rounds above par with one round under par to finish tied for 36th.
In similar fashion, sophomore Zach Wright shot even par in the second round for his best round of the tournament. Wright finished in 69th place with a total score of 14-over-par 227.
The Tigers will take the weekend off before competing in their last regular season tournament at the Aggie Invitational on April 5.
