Anyone who knows me well knows I have an obsession with the Kardashian family. I watch the show, I follow their social media and I own some of their merchandise. So it’s no surprise that I would be one of the first to see Kim Kardashian and Kanye West make the cover of Vogue.
Vogue named the couple “#WorldsMostTalkedAboutCouple,” hashtag included. The photographs were done tastefully, Kardashian was styled in wedding dresses designed from the Lanvin Blanche Collection by Alber Elbaz, Alexander McQueen and Nina Ricci. West is photographed in nice jackets and pants. They also include Kardashian’s and West’s baby daughter, North West. The entire magazine spread has the look of a rich entertainment family getting their family portraits done. Images include the family on a private jet, walking down Paris streets and lounging on a luxurious couch.
However, people just can’t seem to get over the fact that Vogue picked KimYe to be on the cover.

In some commenters’ eyes, a Vogue cover is earned, not given, and the couple has not earned this honor. Others feel it’s just shocking, with Kanye West constantly causing controversy and Kardashian only famous for her reality show and sex tape. Vogue is for dignified, hard-working celebrities and, to most, these two are neither.
But being a fan of this dysfunctional family and Vogue, I’m going to defend both parties.
Vogue is the fashion magazine to look to. It creates trends instead of following them. So taking two of the most talked-about celebrities and their baby and dressing them up for an article was done in a way only Vogue would think of. In reality, most other magazines are probably wondering why they didn’t think of it first because it’s brilliant.
You’re still talking about it. You probably went out and bought it. You probably secretly love it even though you’re scoffing at the fact that these two made the cover.
So Vogue is a genius, but what about Kardashian and West?
Now is the perfect time for Vogue to place them on the cover. They recently had a baby, are engaged to be married and their personal life is seen on the family’s reality show. They are at the front of the public’s mind, so for the first obvious point, putting them on the cover is a smart business move.
However, a second point is less obvious. While these two may not seem like a couple that is dignified enough to be on Vogue, they are highly influential. Kanye West has sold plenty of albums and filled up arenas for concerts. Kardashian promotes her brands with her two sisters, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian. These two hold influence over music, clothing and television.
They are the definition of a powerful entertainment couple, who, individually, have control, but together create conversation that never ends.
So do these two deserve the Vogue cover? They are the world’s most talked-about couple, so I would say yes.
