The No. 29 LSU men’s golf team tee off today at the Valspar Invitational at Floridian in Palm City, Fla., two weeks after finishing second at the Louisiana Classics on March 11.
The tournament features a field of 15 teams, including 12 teams ranked in the top 40 in Golfweek’s Men’s Team Collegiate rankings, not including the Tigers.
Among those teams there are four teams in the top 10: No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Georgia Tech, No. 6 Illinois and No. 8 Houston.
The competition poses a huge challenge for the Tigers, who haven’t fared well against high-ranked competition this spring, finishing eighth in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate that featured some of the same opponents.
An impressive third round outing at the Louisiana Classics, saw the Tigers cut a 13-shot lead to six on the final day, and junior Myles Lewis won the individual title with a score of 10-under par.
The Tigers tee off at 8 a.m. today to play two rounds before finishing up with the third round on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.
