Walking through the University’s campus, there are many landmarks every student and visitor looks for, but they may be adding a new one to the list.
Menswear has been taking over campus in all different forms of styles and trends.
Men think of style much more practically than woman do, dressing for what they need to do that day or how the weather will be. However, this does not mean men don’t care about what they leave the house wearing in the morning. Men, like women, can use style as self expression and an added confidence boost to face the day of exams, papers and interviews.
One menswear trend on campus is taking basics and adding personal touches.
A button down shirt and slacks or a plain T-shirt and jeans can be seen as overdone or not trendy at all, but by adding personal accents, the look becomes far from basic. Choosing a button down in a pattern, a bright color or with a wide-neck collar can make a statement next to the simple button downs. A statement tie, bowtie or pocket square also embellishes a button down.
The white T-shirt and jeans combo is also incredibly basic, but the right accessories can change the look. Many guys on campus are using sneakers, boots, sunglasses and jackets to add the right touch. Items like high-tops, cowboy boots, combat boots, Ray-Bans, bomber or motorcycle jackets differentiate a guy’s plain T-shirt and jeans as his own and shows what he likes or doesn’t like.
Cool high-tops, motorcycle jacket and aviators? He’s channeling James Dean. Cowboy boots and belt with large buckle? He’s ready for the rodeo.
The trend of taking basics and adding personal touches may have been around forever, but it’s been around so long because of how well it works. Basics are always a positive to have in your closet and buying cheaper, trendy pieces allow for a guy to consistently update his basic pieces.
Another trend on campus is the exact opposite of basic.
Pops of color from dark to light can be seen all over campus.
Adding color can come from one piece, bright pants or a jacket, with neutrals for every other item. Or corresponding colors for all of the pieces.
Pastels are a good choice for spring because of their light, bright tones. They also can be easily matched with other pastels or neutral colors.
Darker colors work well with neutrals by adding a statement piece to a simple outfit.
The more color a fabric uses, the more of a statement the clothing item makes. This is a thought to keep in mind for guys interested in trying the color trend.
Either way, adding some form of color to an outfit gives a guy the chance to change his look and stand out in a sea of neutrals. However, this trend may not work as well for a guy who isn’t confident about mixing and matching with brighter colors. So this trend should be used in moderation and only if a guy is confident in what he’s putting together.
Whether the men of campus decide to be daring or simple, the menswear trend on campus is growing and more guys are experimenting with their everyday wardrobe.
