Newly inaugurated Student Government President Clay Tufts and Vice President Taylor Lambert are eagerly working on plans for the fall semester.
“I’m looking forward to interacting with students and seeing how the initiatives benefit them,” Tufts said.
One possible change Tufts and Lambert are discussing is the location of Groovin’ on the Grounds for next year. They are deciding between the Parade Ground and an indoor location, following the success and great feedback from students after this year’s River Center-based Groovin’, Tufts said.
They are also working with the Center for Academic Success on changes to the library. The center decided to move to the first floor of Middleton and replace the computer lab near CC’s Coffee. Tufts said he hopes University alumni will help fund renovations to the library to make more space and replace furniture.
This is one of the reasons he created the Press Secretary position, which will allow SG to communicate with media such as The Advocate. Tufts said he also wants to keep the alumni informed about what is going on with SG.
Tufts and Lambert are also working on the SG bus trip for the first football game of the fall semester in Houston against Wisconsin. They will be speaking at each orientation to boost the attendance rate for the trip.
A fitness and wellness week program aimed at students, called the Geaux Move initiative, is also in the works, Tufts said. They are discussing having physical activity events and seminars on healthy eating.
“The goal is that we are the flagship University so we have to broadcast over the state and inform people about what LSU students are doing to improve their campus,” Tufts said.
Tufts and Lambert will be at the University during the summer and said they are excited about the upcoming semester.
“We worked really hard on these initiatives. It’s not something that we did the night before,” Lambert said.
