The Southeastern Conference offices named freshman infielder Sahvanna Jaquish as the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday after she helped lead the Tigers to three road wins last week. It is Jaquish’s first award in her career at LSU.
The Highland, Calif., native recorded a .467 batting average with a .529 on-base percentage and a .867 slugging percentage in four games. She also tallied three RBIs, five runs scored and three extra-base hits.
The performance is part of a turnaround week for the Tigers that saw them win their third consecutive conference series. After starting conference play 2-7, the team is now 8-10 and sits in the middle of the SEC standings.
Jaquish was most dominant during LSU’s win in its second game against South Carolina on Saturday. The freshman became the third player in team history to record five hits in a game, going 5-for-5 with a double, a triple and three runs scored.
Jaquish is the fourth player on the team this season to win a weekly award, including freshman pitcher Baylee Corbello, who won the same award on Feb. 10. Senior second baseman Allison Falcon was named SEC Player of the Week on April 7, and freshman pitcher Kelsee Selman won SEC Pitcher of the Week on March 3.
