Campus may have everyday April weather today, but as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, part of East Baton Rouge Parish was under a flood warning.
There were severe thunderstorm warnings for northern areas of Louisiana, including Shreveport, which experienced thunderstorms late Thursday.
Around 1 p.m. Thursday, the Weather Channel reported possible tornadoes in northern Louisiana.
Danielle Manning, National Weather Service forecaster, said there were not current predictions for thunderstorms in EBR throughout the weekend, but there are projections of thunderstorms for late Monday into early Tuesday morning.
A tornado warning does not have the potential to be issued until a storm is in the area, Manning said.
“These conditions are the result of a cold front passing through,” she said.
Manning said the flood warning specifically applies to the Mississippi River at Red River Landing, which technically includes EBR.
“There is no projected impact outside of the levees,” Manning said. “The Mississippi River has levees on both sides, and it is expected to be confined.”
She also said the area is expected to fall below flood stage, ending the threat.
