FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Monday that former LSU players Zach Mettenberger and Anthony Johnson had their drug tests flagged at the NFL Scouting Combine held in February.
Mettenberger, a two-year starting quarterback for the Tigers, reportedly provided a dilute sample at the Combine, which also counts as a failed drug test.
Mettenberger’s agents blamed the dilute test on his rehab of a torn ACL he suffered in the Tigers’ regular season finale against Arkansas. The agents told Glazer that Mettenberger was drinking excessive amounts of water during his rehab to prevent cramping.
In a statement to FOX Sports, Johnson’s agent said he had no knowledge of the alleged failed test.
Mettenberger, generally projected as a second or third round selection, threw for 3,083 yards and 22 touchdowns last season before missing the Outback Bowl after his knee injury.
Johnson, a projected fourth or fifth round selection, started all 13 games last season, posting nine tackles for loss and three sacks. He was named Second Team All Southeastern Conference by both the AP and the league’s coaches after the season.
