A weather delay in Sunday’s match between No. 60 LSU and No. 64 Southern Methodist didn’t hamper the Lady Tigers 4-0 defeat of the Mustangs.
The match was moved into SMU’s indoor facility for a late afternoon start and LSU (4-1) didn’t waste anytime jumping on the Mustangs (1-3) as the duos of juniors Mary Jeremiah and Noel Scott and freshmen Skylar Holloway and Joana Vale Costa’s respective wins of 6-2 and 6-4 gave the Lady Tigers the doubles point.
The Mustangs forfeited courts five and six in singles, giving LSU a 3-0 advantage.
Sophomore Ella Taylor clinched the event and helped the Lady Tigers to their second win of a four-match road trip with her 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Electing to play out the singles matches, the Lady Tigers’ Scott and Vale Costa won their respective contests 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1.
Sunday was Jeremiah’s first time on the court since LSU’s January 19 victory against Southern. On way to their second consecutive win against the Mustangs, the Lady Tigers’ Costa remains undefeated in singles play this season.
