Walking into the final day of “The Con,” I expected the crowds to have died down a great deal from the previous days. While the crowds were not nearly as large as the jam-packed previous days, there were still a quite a few more people there than I had expected.
None of the energy had been lost over the weekend, and the cosplayers came out again in full-force. I was surprised to see that so many people had decided to wear their elaborate costumes on all three days of the convention, but I was impressed by their dedication. I spent a good portion of the day speaking with the cosplayers, asking them about their experiences.
I was surprised to discover how much work goes into creating these costumes, and by the amount of people who do the work for charity. Many cosplayers mentioned being part of groups that volunteer to go to Children’s Hospitals while wearing the costumes. The cosplayers that I spoke to were extremely kind and approachable, and wanted everyone to know who they were, and who they were pretending to be.
I also took the time to do some shopping, and to get various items signed by some of the artists and writers at the con.
There were a great deal of names that I was familiar with that I saw while walking down the artist’s alley, which proved to me that New Orleans is becoming more recognized as an important city in the nerd world.
The growth of New Orleans Comic Con is what impressed me the most this year. With all the excitement and incredible guests that came this time, I cannot wait to see what next year has in store.
