UPDATE 2/18 5:59 P.M.: Associate athletic director Michael Bonnette said nothing official has been released on the hiring of Peveto.
LSU football has hired Kentucky special teams coordinator Bradley Dale Peveto for the same position, according to reports on Tuesday.
Kyle Tucker of the Louisville Courier-Journal first broke the story Tuesday morning that Peveto was offered the job from LSU coach Les Miles, citing a source close to the Kentucky staff.
The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger and Nola.com’s Jim Kleinpeter reported later that Peveto accepted th job.
Associate athletic director Michael Bonnette did not immediately respond to calls for a comment. Assistant football sports information director Jake Terry was unable to confirm or deny any reports at the time.
Peveto replaces former special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey, who left for a job at the same position with the NFL’s New York Jets.
This isn’t Peveto’s first coaching stint in Baton Rouge. The 51-year-old coach was the LSU special teams coordinator and linebackers coach from 2005-07 before an unsuccessful season as co-defensive coordinator resulted in Peveto’s departure from the program in 2008.
Peveto spent one season as Kentucky special teams coordinator and safeties coach after being fired as the head coach of Northwestern State.
