CVS Caremark announced Wednesday their 7,600 stores will phase out all sales of cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco by Oct. 1.
“Ending the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at CVS/pharmacy is the right thing for us to do for our customers and our company to help people on their path to better health,” said President and CEO Larry J. Merlo in a news release.
Lauren Beauchamp, a cashier at CVS’s Highland Road location just off campus, was unaware of the company’s policy change, but excited upon hearing the news.
“It’s a good idea,” Beauchamp said. “People shouldn’t smoke.”
Beauchamp said the company’s new plans make her prouder to work for CVS.
