Baton Rouge’s hipster residents despondent over the near closing of Highland Coffees have found refuge in the form of yet another obscure record store that you probably haven’t heard of. Capitol City Records located off of Perkins Road just opened this past Friday and will surely have enough stock of Neutral Milk Hotel records for our bearded brethren to jam out to while they tell you all about how they DIDN’T take pictures at their Varsity concert.
More importantly, Capitol City will contain an extensive collection of vinyl records from all over the world that will make a perfect Christmas gift for that college freshman cousin of yours who just got really into Nietzsche and smoking a corncob pipe.
When asked why he prefers the new CCR to local stores Atomic Pop Shop and Lagniappe records, LSU sophomore and Oboist in a local Smiths tribute band, Theo Broadmoor simply said “Well, cause they’re not mainstream yet, man. Hopefully they don’t sell their soul and start carrying popular music that will actually sell.”
For updates regarding all things Capitol City Records, and to find out what up-and-coming obscure Baton Rouge throat singers that sound EXACTLY like Sigur Ros, visit TheFunyon.com.
