“I don’t really know a lot about him,” Auburn defensive tackle Montravius Adams said. “I just know that our defense is going to come to play and I hope their offense come to play. And we’re going to try to get the win.”
All eyes will be on true freshman quarterback Brandon Harris in his first start. But on the other side of the ball, Jamal Adams looks to lead the Tiger defense into Auburn.
“I think he’s going to do a great job,” LSU safety Ronald Martin said. “He’s a very good kid, very hard worker. So I think he’s going to be ready.”
“I think our guys understand how to play in big games,” LSU head coach Les Miles stated. “I think it will be exciting for him.”
Adams replaces LSU’s leading tackler Dwayne Thomas who tore his ACL last week against New Mexico State. And the true freshman will try to plug the holes in LSU’s defense before Auburn comes steamrolling through.
“He’s going to be missed but I think Jamal and those guys will step up and do the same level of things that he’s been doing,” Martin said.
Penned by Martin as the “loudest” away setting he’s ever played in, Jordan-Hare Stadium is raucous enough but throw several true freshmen in the mix. And the challenge becomes even bigger for LSU.
“I think they’ll kind of look around and enjoy the fact that this is a real great college venue but then they’ll realize that they need to play big and this is a very quality opponent,” Miles said. “I think our young guys will look to play big and play like Tigers on the road.”
“We always do hard things,” Martin said. “We play loud music here at practice just to give them a little taste of it. And I mean, nothing’s louder than Death Valley on a Saturday so I feel like those guys are prepared.”
