Corsets are making a comeback. This time it’s less about fashion and more about losing weight and creating the famous hour glass physique.
It’s called waist training. It involves women wearing a tight corset for several hours a day with the goal of reshaping your midsection and shrinking your waist.
Keila, owner of fabulous figures explains how the corsets work.
“It works by putting compression on the abdomen. The garment is real, real, tight so It’s going to help you lose water weight. A lot of ladies lose up to two to three inches; you’re going to lose that instantly. But over time you’re gradually going to lose your waist.”
Her customers have seen real results.
“I started off in a 42 inch. This is my third one which is a 38 inch. You have to be consistent; you have to wear it every day,” customer Danielle McMorris said.
But is this safe?
“There’s a reason why waist trainers were probably left in the 1800s,” Dr. Rani Whitmore said.
“Many women don’t know how to wear them appropriately. They’re usually worn too tight. Some people try to exercise in these waist trainers so they’re short of breathe. They don’t allow the lungs to expand. They can bruise the ribs, they can bruise the organs.”
But Keila stands by her product.
“I haven’t heard any health issues with any of my ladies.”
