LSU senior outfielder Jared Foster will return to the LSU football team for the 2014 season to play quarterback, according to Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette.
Foster played quarterback for LSU his freshman year in 2011 as a walk-on and did not have a snap. The Lake Charles native received all-state honors while playing quarterback at Barbe High School.
After his freshman season, Foster decided to forgo his football career and devote his full attention to baseball. He made the 2013 All-Southeastern Conference Tournament team his sophomore year, but struggled in 2014, batting .115 while recording only four extra-base hits.
The story comes one day after it wide receiver Rob Bolden decided to transfer to Eastern Michigan. Despite being listed as a receiver throughout the spring and offseason, Bolden was still the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart behind sophomore Anthony Jennings and freshman Brandon Harris.
With the departure of Bolden, quarterbacks behind Jennings include freshman Jack Clise, junior Brad Kragthorpe and sophomore Brandon Bergeron, all of whom are walk-ons.
Foster will remain with the baseball team as an outfielder and with one year left of eligibility. He also has two years of eligibility left in football.
