When you order from Raising Cane’s on Thursday, be sure to buy something for Christopher Broussard.
The restaurant will partner with the LSU Foundation to raise money for a memorial scholarship in Broussard’s name on Sept. 18. The need-based scholarship, which honors the University student who died last year in an automobile accident, would support students with an emphasis on community service.
Fifteen percent of proceeds between 3 and 10 p.m. will be donated to the scholarship fund. Customers who mention Broussard at three participating locations — Perkins, Lee, and State streets — can contribute. (You can find the closest Cane’s here.) For added incentive, Cane’s will donate a 50-finger tailgate platter to the fraternity or sorority that registers the most sales. General manager Brian LeBlanc said that while Cane’s will honor donations at their LSU location on State Street, his staff will be better equipped to handle heavy foot traffic at Perkins.
Lisa Broussard reached out to the LSU Foundation in May to establish an endowment in her son’s honor. Brainstorming with friends took her from Exerfit to Cane’s, where LeBlanc was eager to help. Chandler Rome’s feature for The Daily Reveille has more information.
Students who wish to help the scholarship fund further are encouraged to speak to Broussard, who will oversee the event at Perkins.
