BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU athletic director Joe Alleva’s proposed three-year extension has been approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors.
Nola.com-The Times-Picayune reports that the board approved the extension without discussion at its September meeting on Friday.
The extension comes without a raise for Alleva, who has been LSU’s AD since 2008. It will keep him under contract through 2019. Alleva makes $725,000 a year with incentives that can increase it to $900,000.
The board also approved three-year extensions for women’s basketball coach Nikki Caldwell and softball coach Beth Torino, plus a $35,000 raise for Torino. She will now make $145,000 per year.
Alleva was hired after spending 30 years at Duke, the last 10 as athletic director.
Since Alleva arrived at LSU, Tiger Stadium has undergone a facelift, including the addition of the south end zone upper deck, which added club sections, suites and 8,000 seats. The stadium capacity increased to 102,321, second largest in the SEC and fifth in the nation.
“My wife and I love it here,” Alleva, 61, said after Friday’s meeting. “The only thing that would make me leave is if I stop liking my job. I like my job. It’s challenging. I like the people I work for. I’m honored and pleased to have that extension and to be here at least another five years.”
