Rhinestone bras, fake tans, and C-list stars galore. No, I’m not talking about the outside of a VIP club in Hollywood.
“Dancing with the Stars” premiered its 19th season tonight with a few new twists, but more or less the same usual hijinks.
One of the most notable changes to the show is that former professional dancer Julianne Hough now sits at the judge’s table alongside ‘Dancing’ veterans Julie-Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli.
The show also welcomed a few new professional dancers including Artem Chigvintsev (partnered with Lea Thompson of “Back to the Future” fame) and Keo Motsepe (partnered with Lolo Jones).
Speaking of Lolo, the former LSU track star and Olympian had one of the most memorable performances of the night, but not for good reasons. In her intro package, Jones mentioned how she would have trouble with the sexier dances because of her vow to wait until marriage to have sex and her awkwardness definitely came out during the dance. According to Jones, she missed a cue at the beginning of her song causing the rest of the performance to fall flat, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she just doesn’t have the dancing bug in her at all. Lolo’s chacha received a composite score of 22, one of the lowest of the night.
As if we needed more Louisiana pride featured on this show, 17-year-old Sadie Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” fame is also a cast member. While Sadie’s performance wasn’t perfect, the teen has a lot of potential and impressed all the judges with a composite score of 34.
Tommy Chong also delivered quite the performance with his partner Peta Murgatroyd. The actor, who is known for being a stoner, definitely didn’t hesitate to incorporate his favorite pastime into the performance. Chong and Peta were decked out in green costumes while dancing to Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” I really wish I were making this up. What Chong may not have proved with actual dancing talent, he made up with personality and potential. The judges sent him off with a score of 27.
The winner of the night was “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alum Alfonso Ribeiro who took home a score of 36. Carlton may just be the one to take home the coveted mirrorball trophy at the end of the competition.
Finals prediction: Unless we run into some crazy plot twists (you know, injuries, eliminations, etc.), I think we will definitely be seeing Alfonso Ribeiro, Janel Parrish, and Sadie Robertson in the top 3.
